StopPress’ alternative RWC infographics: Incarceration rates
As many law-abiding citizens know, prisons are a necessary evil. Recently our finance minister said prisons were a “moral and fiscal failure” at “$250,000 a bed, $90,000 a year to run”. The money spent by New Zealand on incarceration dwarfs what has been spent on the Rugby World Cup. RWC of incarceration winner, USA, won’t make it past the first round of the real thing, but they would be world beaters if these totally irrelevant figures were anything to go by. The top three places were dominated by minnows of the rugby world in the infographics.co.nz’s series of alternative RWC predictions. New Zealand came in a close fifth behind South Africa, Georgia and Russia. Garth McVicar eat your heart out.
