A journey to the future: design legend David Carson soon to hit Kiwi shores

Creative Review magazine called David Carson “the most famous graphic designer on the planet” and “art director of the era”; his first book The End of Print, is the top selling graphic design book of all time, selling over 200,000 copies; and he and his work have been featured in over 180 magazine and newspaper articles around the world, including a feature in Newsweek magazine and a front page article in the New York Times. Well, Kiwi design lovers rejoice, for you will be able to bask in his reflected glow when he conducts seminars Auckland and Wellington in February.

Known as the “Father of Grunge”, Carson is principal and chief designer of David Carson Design, Inc, which has offices in Del Mar, California and Zurich, Switzerland, and he is being brought to New Zealand by The Image College, which “provides professional development for visual creative professionals”.

The seminar, called Graphic Design after Print, will focus on how, at a time when people are reading less and formats are changing, you can use design get people’s attention. He will also talk about communication, interpretation of the client’s message and their audience, and how to use design and typopgraphy to communicate the message before the viewer even gets to the words.

Carson (who has just announced the launch of a new eponymous magazine) will also be showcasing his latest work and will show you how to adapt your style to the challenges of the new decade.

Book tickets for the Auckland seminar (22 February) here and the Wellington event (24 February) here. The earlybird rate of $295 expires at the end of January.
