Return of the Biggs?
Despite some strong rumourmongery that claimed ex Clemenger BBDO Wellington managing director Peter Biggs was set to return to a role in New Zealand after five years spent successfully running the show at Clemenger BBDO Melbourne, the man himself has quashed those rumours and says he’s staying put.
We received a mysterious communique a few days ago saying that the notorious Biggs’ had been spotted in Wellington quite a lot recently and that his imminent return was “New Zealand’s worst kept secret”. According to another Australian mole, which are the worst kind of moles, those in the Aussie scene have noticed the increasing frequency of his trips to New Zealand, but because there are no opportunities for him with Clemenger Group companies in Auckland at the moment and with Andrew Holt recently being appointed as managing director of his old haunt in Wellington, it was widely believed that “he was in discussions with another agency”.
When contacted, Biggs was at his farm in the Wairarapa and said he’d love to come back to New Zealand at some stage, but not at the moment, because his kids still need to go through school. The reason he’s been coming back over so often recently is to see his father on the farm and also as part of his obligations as the chair of two charities, the Cultural Philanthropy Task Force and the New Zealand Book Council, both of which recently released their annual reports.
So, dirty old rumour mongers, may you monger your rumours no more.
