Not-for-profits fixed up, soon to look digitally sharp

yMedia, a social enterprise that aims to solve some of the digital communications issues faced by not-for-profit organisations through the power of creative collaboration, has just kicked off. And this time round, twenty student teams, a host of industry professionals and their respective community groups will all be going head to head in the annual new media competition.

Co-managing director at yMedia, Eddy Helm, says the industry has shown incredible support with record numbers of professionals offering their skills to mentor student teams, with people from many of Auckland’s most well known advertising, digital and media firms, including TBWA/TEQUILA, Fresh Fish/BRR, Alt Group, HB Media, The Common Room, Touchpoint, Shift, DDB, Messiah Ltd, Sparks Interactive, Saatchi & Saatchi, Rad3, CraftDigital, and Colenso, putting their hands up to help.

“The 20 community groups and the 62 students involved get a lot out of the mentors’ skills through their involvement and insights into the teams’ particular communications problem,” Helm says.

The challenge, now in its fourth year and sponsored by the generous folks at nzherald.co.nz, runs from June 15 to August 9 where the student teams compete to develop and implement digital media initiatives for their organisations. The mentors aid the student teams to hone their focus on strategy and what really makes a good solution for their community group. And the whole challenge rounds off with an awards dinner, where the $5000 grand prize, as well as best use of design, most sustainable and most innovative, will be handed out.
