Air New Zealand wins thing, again

Air New Zealand has continued its purple patch, picking up a few more global industry accolades over the weekend after being chosen as Best Airline Australia/Pacific and handed the Staff Service Excellence Award for the Australia/Pacific region at the Skytrax World Airline Awards, a ‘passenger’s choice’ style awards for airlines.

These awards nip at the heels of recent accolades including Best Airline at the 2010 Which? Magazine Awards in the UK last week, as well as the ATW Airline of Year Award in February.

The Skytrax gongs were based on feedback received from 17.9 million air travelers, of 100 nationalities, across a 10 month period between July 2009 and April 2010. Over 200 airlines, both international juggernauts and domestic carriers, were included in the survey.

Edward Plaisted, chairman of Skytrax, says the award showed Air New Zealand was achieving where it mattered most.

“The awards represent a true recognition of the front-line product and service that Air New Zealand is delivering to customers, and the award slogan of ‘The Passenger’s Choice’ underlines the fact Air New Zealand is clearly succeeding in satisfying the hardest critics – their users.”

And in what was probably a complete coincidence, Plaisted offered the exact platitudes to Asiana Airlines, which took out the overall Airline of the Year Award. Waddathachances?
