Vodafone’s cheeky wee number deemed February’s best
Not surprisingly, Telecom has been on the receiving end of a few XT related barbs in recent times. But not just from consumers. Its competitors have also been very happy to oblige with a few barbs of their own. And this cheeky wee number from .99 for Vodafone was deemed good enough to take the NAB newspaper ad of the month title for February.
The judges were Danielle Richards, from DDB, and Mick Stalker, from Colenso BBDO. They said (in unison): “Very topical and good use of the medium in a creative way”.

Does it matter that Vodafone's network had it's own litttle wobble this week?

Great decision but interesting judges… a DDB one endorsing an ad that sh1ts on a client they're pitching for and another from the winning agency, more or less.

No, it doesn't. Because none of the customers noticed. Telecom's outage was an order of magnitude greater, with most of its customers affected one way or another and 111 calls not able to get through.
Hardly the same thing at all.

Well we will just have to wait and see how reliable Vodafone is. Not that I like Telecom or work for them or their agency or anything like that. But Murphy's Law states that something's bound to happen. Watch any sports event where a commentator says "McCaw is having an awesome game" and within 5 seconds he'll stuff up and get sent off. It's the law… I just can't wait to see it…
