I really wonder about Consumer's indeopendence anyhow. They may not be allied to any commercial organisation - but they do have an agenda judging by the very poor "lets jump to these conclusions" report I read based on one of their studies. The report in question, leapt miles away from their mystery shopper observations to then make sweeping recommendations about the industry in question. Reading I thought two things. 1) This is bad research, and wouldn't pass muster in my profession - Market Research. 2) Me-thought that somebody in Consumer wants to be heard at a select committee somewhere.

You can't be independent when your agenda is political; any more than if your agenda is brazenly commercial.
