image001A DIY envelope made of steel and copper by independent entrant Barak Yahav has taken home the Best In Show prize at this year’s Art of The Envelope awards.

The annual competition, held by Candida Stationery, New Zealand Post Targeted Communications and Kinetic 121, encourages people to push the boundaries of the ‘humble envelope’

Nearly 100 entries were received from across New Zealand and were judged by a panel headed up by guest judge Andy Blood, Partner and Group Executive Creative Director at TBWA\Whybin.

Yahav’s s ‘Metallic Envelope’ entry beat out a range of entries, such as a concrete envelope, a message in a bottle and a Chinese lantern for the uber-prize and also won the Refine and Redefine category (work that redefines the concept of an envelope to produce an artistic or futuristic masterpiece).

Blood says: “We felt Barak’s entry truly redefined the concept of the envelope – it’s a beautiful work of art crafted in a distinctly Kiwi DIY style. We also liked the way its mirrored front means it’s always addressed to the person looking into it, giving it a unique and lasting appeal.”

Other category winners were:

Mailed Masterpiece (includes 3D pieces that have been mailed or delivered) – National Bank Cricket Set for the National Bank, by Jason Hall, Kathy Maaka, Asher Hutchings, Rachel Street, RAPP
