American newspaper magnate William Randolph Hearst (1863 –1951) once said these wise words, which appeared on a National Lampoon cover in 1977.
Honest words, even though Hearst was known to indulge in yellow journalism that “routinely invented sensational stories, faked interviews, ran phony pictures and distorted real events”, according to the book Unreliable Sources.
Well, it worked for Hearst, and his success was so great he was the inspiration for Orson Welles’ Citizen Kane.
