DDB scoops Caxton Awards
The 35th Annual Caxton Awards and Seminar were held in Coolum, Queensland on the weekend, showcasing the best newspaper ads Australasia had to offer this year. Print isn’t dead, it just smells funny when it comes off the press.
Only seven agencies won Caxtons, out of 17 that were dished out. Topping the winners’ circle is DDB NZ with four awards, all for Sky TV ‘Alien vs Predator’. It ate the competition in these categories: Best Campaign, Media/Entertainment/Telco/IT, Best Art Direction and Best Photography.
Brisbane’s SapientNitro took out three awards for Tourism Queensland ‘Best job in the world’: the Quinlivan Black Award, Travel/Leisure and Best Small Space Ad.
Marketforce and 303, both from Perth, also won hat-tricks.

I wonder where the inspiration for this came from as this same scenario originally appeared in the Robot Chicken animated series, and in their first series too…. well over two years ago….

If I run my billboard art in a newspaper can I enter it in the caxtons too? This is absolutely not a great newspaper ad. The judges were completely wrong. This is not a matter of opinion. I am definitely off to lunch now.

Well, clear proof that Sky is nuts to take the bulk of their advertising in house! This is business-changing work here, and it's great to see someone also had the bright idea to enter these hard working ads into a creative award.
