Ant Timpson proposes NZ Film Month
We all know the work of fanatical filmhead Ant Timpson – producer, director, programmer and organiser of 48 Hours and The Incredibly Strange Film Festival.
On his blog this week he has proposed two awesome ideas. He would like the government to subsidise a 100 per cent New Zealand content digital screen in cineplexes and arthouses in our major cities. This would ensure all local digital movies will have a medium for screening. Now it is virtually impossible for small-budget Kiwi filmmakers to show their work to a wide audience.
Second, Timpson would like movie houses to have a NZ Film Month, screening only local shorts and features. Inspired by the success and growth of NZ Music Month, Timpson believes this can be a viable event if subsidised and supported by all proponents in the film industry. Get in behind him. Read his blog here.

Great idea. Just as good as New Zealand Book Month, celebrating our unique voice. Our fourth year is on the horizon — 1 to 31st October — and on just a shoestring. The Sunday Star Times is printing a great calendar section on the 4th and events are throughout the country. Check out http://www.nzbookmonth.co.nz for more details and get involved!

Great ideas. So great, that a few people in the book industry thought the same thing about five years ago – and New Zealand Book Month was born. Much like NZMM in its first years, its struggled to survive, yet now in its fourth year there are a bunch of people across the country who are proving that Kiwi’s can get past the cultural cringe and celebrate their own voices. We’ve worked with script and screen writers in the past – its a small country, to be a writer most people write cross genre – could we do more? Could you do more? Thank you Frances for posting this. The response from people has been overwhelming and encouraging. It’s such a simple concept and like NZBM and NZMM, fundamentally important for a long term supportive vision of NZ culture.
Originally the smart alec in me wanted to start something called CRINGEFEST, which was a playful spin on peoples perceptions.
