Indie films don’t make good bedtime stories

Although often applauded for featuring superior narratives based on the erudite observations of talented writers, indie film plot tropes don’t necessarily provide suitable content for bedtime stories. This fact, obvious to most, is used as the premise for a new spot for the Newport Beach Film Festival in which an indie-film-obsessed father tells his daughter a terrifying, albeit creative, bedtime story rather than just reading a storybook.

Interestingly, this isn’t the first time that the producers of the spot, creative agency RPA and production company Tool, have used an unconventional approach to promoting the film festival. Last year, this creative collaboration spawned a terrifying shocksploitation spot that left viewers with a renewed fear of the dentist. Fortunately, the new spot features far less face cutting.

And the insanity doesn’t stop there. In 2012, the film festival’s promo, also created by RPA and Tool, featured a clearly disturbed woman engaging in the irresponsible pastime known as highway dancing.
