Online series takes Rotorua Marketing to new heights

Destination Rotorua Marketing has released a new web-based video series that builds on last year’s Famously Rotorua TVC that aimed to draw domestic travellers to the region.

The series, Rotorua’s Hidden Hot Spots, is a collection of six clips of between one minute and one and a half minutes. They focus on contemporary Maori culture, a luxury weekend, the Redwood Forest and eco-adventures.

Destination Rotorua Marketing general manager Oscar Nathan says the organisation wanted to challenge perceptions of Rotorua. “As locals we know the lifestyle Rotorua offers – all the adventure sports, the geothermal spas to visit and the amazing experiences we have here. This series is about sharing some of those.”

The online video series was made by Rotorua-based Cadre Productions and filmed by Nick Stevenson. “There is so much more to Rotorua than meets the eye,” Stevenson says. “Individually each video is about one aspect of Rotorua that most people wouldn’t be familiar with.”

Last year’s TVC was made with mediaR and creative director Paul Taylor from The Neighbourhood. fronted by 14-year-old Te Rina West, chosen from 300 other locals who auditioned for the role.
