New yahoos at Yahoo!

Yahoo! New Zealand has snagged Ben Gibb as its new agency sales manager. Previously Gibb worked at Bauer Media as agency sales manager and before that at HB Media (now Tangible Media) when it launched Idealog and Good Magazine.

With 18 years’ industry experience, Gibb will be responsible for facilitating multi-platform industry-leading campaigns across Yahoo!’s suite of clients and delivering on sales targets. He starts at the beginning of August and will report in to the general manager of sales, Louis Niven.

Also coming on board is new senior account manager Rick Goodwin, who’ll be reporting to Gibb.

Goodwin has a strong digital background and returns to New Zealand after a six-year tenure in the UK, where he was a senior digital planner at London-based agency Web Liquid. He was responsible for managing international accounts for clients including Avis, Hilton and Budget Rent-A-Car, and also for pioneering the company’s new media offering.

“Ben has an outstanding reputation in the advertising industry in New Zealand and Rick has a proven track record in delivering effective digital media campaigns, and we’re excited about what they can bring to Yahoo!,” says Niven. “This is an exciting time for Yahoo! New Zealand and being able to add talent of this calibre to the team further bolsters our offering and will help enable clients to realise the full potential of Yahoo’s products to drive brand experiences online.”

Ali Williams’ second wind on The Rock

Former All Black Ali Williams will be giving his rather notorious mouth a good workout at The Rock radio station.

Williams has been brought off the bench to work as the Morning Rumble’s sports reader, while the usual player in the position (John Day) is on a sabbatical. Williams will take over for eight weeks from 5 August.

Let’s hope that Williams is able to control himself when reading emotional sports news a little better than when he announced his retirement.

Mo Flava

The Radio Network is taking its hip hop and RnB brand Flava to Wellington and Dunedin, with two new frequencies :

Wellingon – 104.5FM
Dunedin – 88.6FM

“With our launch of Flava into Wellington and Dunedin it will enable us to capitalise on the ever growing urban audience and further raise TRN’s overall fresh and funky youth audience,” says Flava content director Christian Boston.
