Name games

TradeMe Jobs recently launched a campaign showing that nominative determinism was a thing of the past. Try telling that to the BBC.

Not surprisingly, the correspondent in question isn't actually from the Correspondent family. It's Matthew Price. But there has been a bit of research into the topic over the years and, according to the Daily Mail, one paper found that while "your surname may not quite be your destiny, a surname connected to a particular job or career is still much more likely to draw you to that profession".

"The paper—Why Susie Sells Seashells By The Seashore—concluded that we are disproportionately likely to ‘choose careers whose labels resemble our names’, such as dentists called Dennis or Denise."
