Although its been in operation since 2010, its director, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, is encouraging people to unleash their inner artist and join.

Hit Record considers itself a community sourced production company as artists from around the world combine their talents to create animations, videos, songs and stories.

Users can upload original work, add their own touch to someone’s work, or upload content and challenge other users to edit it – a bit like Uber, but for creatives, a platform designed to be used when a moment of inspiration strikes.

Once collaborations are complete Gordon-Levitt, known for his roles in front of the camera, works to take them to the traditional market place, turning the creations into a profit.

Since 2010, artists have earned $1,663,130.
